Thanks! This is the Cowlitz in western Washington state, which drains the southern Cascades and flows south to join the Columbia downstream from Portland, Oregon. The Toutle, which flows from Mt. St. Helens, is a tributary, and the mudflows from the 1980 eruption choked the Cowlitz too. For a long time you could see big terraces along part of the river downstream where the mud had been dredged out.
