Colorado River from Toroweap Point

1965, probably late summer. An old family slide of a now much-photographed vantage point. This area, now part of Grand Canyon National Park, was pretty remote then! It's famous for the ca. 3000' (1000 m) drop to the river below.

Dizzying indeed. The area is now part of Grand Canyon Nat'l Park (at the time it was Grand Cyn Nat'l Monument), but AFAIK it's still reached by 80 miles of graded dirt roads! The nearest town of any size is St. George, Utah.
