Onion Valley Reservoir

Pine Forest Range, Nevada, USA. The gears in the foreground are for the gate that controls discharge from the reservoir. The shrub with small yellow blooms is rabbitbrush, a very common element of the local flora. It was hazy that day due to smoke from wildfires in California.

I'd imagine so--it's still important to control the reservoir outflow! Often you see a chain with a bright shiny padlock wrapped around the wheel that turns the gears, in case some prankster--or worse--decides to change the setting. Water is still touchy in this part of the world; as Mark Twain wrote, "Whiskey's for drinkin'. Water's for fightin' over!"
