Doherty Slide

Lake County, Oregon, USA. On Oregon State Route 140, between Adel and Denio, NV, just north of the Nevada line. The name is reputed to come from the practice of chaining up the wagons' wheels at the top so they couldn't turn, and then just letting them slide. It's still a rather...interesting road in a modern motor vehicle. The scarp the highway is cut into overlooks improbably named Guano Valley.
