The high inflation period after the First World War in Germany and other countries didn't go unnoticed in the rest of the world. The worthless paper money found its way in the collection of many people, among them was my grandfather. How he came about these notes, I don't know.

The text is the so-called "Mumme-Lied" from the opera Heinrich der Vogler from 1718. The words were written by Johann Ulrich König, the music by Georg Caspar Schürmann. It is probably Niederdeutsch, Brunswick is located in the Niederdeutsch area.
"Brunsewyk, du leiwe Stadt,
vor vel dusent Städen.
Dei sau schöne Mumme hat,
dar ikk Worst kann freten."
---------
"Brunswick, you lovely City,
among thousands of Cities.
Which got so beautiful/great Mumme (Beer),
where I can eat (Brunswicker) sausage."
