Leidens Ontzet 2022

Yearly celebration of the relief of Leiden in 1574. The Spanish forces besieged Leiden for a long time, many people died of hunger and disease, but by flooding the surrounding countryside the Spanish could be driven away and the city was relieved. The Dutch forces handed out bread, cheese and herrings. Bread and herring are still handed out every year.
