Gouda 2017 – Former bank of weduwe Knox en Dortland

Philippus Knox (1772-1841) was a grandson of a Schot, who emigrated to the Netherlands in 1737. After his death, his second wife Hermina Scheffer took over his broker business together with an employee, Alexander Dortland. Scheffer died in 1867. In 1952 the business was taken over by the Nederlandsche Handel Maatschappij, which fused with the Twentsche Bank to become the Algemene Bank Nederland (ABN). ABN fused with the Amsterdam-Rotterdam Bank (AMRO) to become ABN-AMRO.
This building dates from 1937.
