He landed on the first wave on Utah Beach. When they discovered that they landed on the wrong spot, he said: ”We’ll start the war from right here!” He was 56 at the time and suffering from a heart condition and arthritis, making him to walk with a stick. He requested to be buried with his men and next to his brother Quentin, who was killed in World War I.

More likely a difference of culture between the Americans and the British. Americans can be a bit more ostentatious I think ;-)
