This street is named after mrs. Ida de Leeuw van Rees, who presented a radio programme called „Met naald en schaar” (With needle and scissors) from 1926 to 1963 (during the war she wasn't allowed on the radio, probably because of her Jewish husband). The programme was about making your own clothes. Her farewell programme in 1963 was quite emotional.

She was the first woman in the Netherlands who had a driver's license.
