In countries outside the Netherlands you can lock the pump handle, so that you can take pictures for instance, while the car is filled with fuel.
The diesel was about € 1,17 per liter, that is US$ 5,91 per US gallon (exchange rate May 13, 2007)
The cheapest diesel was in Austria, at € 0,934 per liter, that is US$ 4,72 per US gallon.
