Thank you so very much, dear friend! Actually the figures are resin made to look like wood. They are Willow Tree figurines made by a company called DEMDACO and were designed by Susan Lordi. I don't know how she does it, but her figures are tremendously expressive even without detailed faces. Of all the nativities I have seen in my lifetime, this one touches me the most. Her angels and special occasion figurines are very popular, too.

They look like carved wood but are actually made of resin. Of all the Nativity scenes I've seen in my life this one touches my heart the most, despite the lack of detailed faces. All the expression is contained in the position of the bodies.
