Fushia

I chose the macro setting with a polarized lens to shoot in bright sunlight at high noon. This photo has not been processed in any way. Thank you so much, everyone, for your comments and helpful hints. Check out a cropped version of this photo in the note up in the left hand corner.

Good, but the unfocused flower closer to the camera on right takes too much space and attention, I think. One could always crop the image ;-)

That polarized lens is something I miss! On Canon G12 there's no easy way to attach it, and on my new Olympus camera lenses the filter size is huge, thus increasing the prize of glass filter way too expensive for me to see them worth for it.

Thanks so much for your comment, Sami, and for the critique. This was a tough week for me, because I wasn't really happy with any of the pictures I took for the challenge. I had a particular vision in mind, and almost made it. Thanks for pinpointing the weaknesses in this photo. I usually crop, but this week's challenge called for as little processing as possible.

I was so happy to find hubby's polarized filter in the bag this week, hence my decision to photograph under less than good circumstances that I never had success with: bright sunlight! I was impressed with the difference the filter made to this photo :)

Polarized filter indeed makes a great difference. I used them a lot with my old Olympus film camera where all lenses had quite compact 49mm filter size.

Great results Val, getting an image you like straight out of the camera, while working with a setting you've not used before ... add to that the minimal post processing limitations makes for a frustrating adventure and yet you have a great picture.:)

As for the blurred flower, my eye went straight to the one in sharp focus so I must have mentally cropped it out. :)

You've worked wonders with the polarizer! Really makes things clear and vibrant. I thought it looked all right, but then I can't see colors. Are they really awful, like somebody said?

Thanks so much, Haarfager! No, like Wendi said, it is a translator mistake, I'm sure. I think Isabelle was trying to say "awesome".

I absolutely love the spectacular rich colours, and the focus on the main flower. Very well done. A closer square crop would also be stunning. I have never used any filters so will have to think about that now :-)

Thanks so much, Gillian! Now I have to try cropping this photo, lol! Try the polarizing filter, it really did work wonders!

Absolutely delightful. Terrific non-edited shot! Especially pleasing to me as I used to major in fuchsias when I had gardens (sniff!).
