Roman Lincoln

Folder: Roman Britain
The initial Roman occupation at Lincoln was the legionary fortress built on the top of the hill. When the soldiers moved out the fortress site was designated a 'colonia' (a settlement for army veterans). The name Lincoln is derived from the original Roman name of Colonia Lindensium.
