Douglas Haig, 1st Earl Haig (1861 – 1928) was a British soldier and senior commander (Field Marshal) during World War I. Haig was born in Edinburgh, the son of John Haig, who was head of the family's successful Haig & Haig whisky distillery.
The statue is near Edinburgh Castle.
