Morpurgo's

Morpurgo's is the oldest bookshop in Split and the third oldest in Europe. It was founded in 1860 by publisher, industrial pioneer and culture promoter Vid Morpurgo and still operates from the same address. Born in 1838, Vid Morpurgo's heritage lives on in the small, cozy building on Narodni Trg (People's Square), in central Split. Today's owners, the Pisac family, carry on his tradition - they have even reconstructed the bookshop under the strict control of conservationists. Even if they sell it, nothing else can be placed in this space but a bookshop.
