Mercifully, smoking has long been banned inside public places, but smoking emits CO2 and other greenhouse gasses and pollutants into the atmosphere, contributing to climate change and degrading air quality, and should be banned outside as well.

If he's emitting CO2 with his cigarette, then he's probably helping the planet in a minimal way, as we need more (not less) of this life-giving gas. But it sounds like (as though) you've swallowed the Great Climate Lie and will be happy to be a globalist-controlled sheep.

I agree about CO2, and will take up smoking straight away, and henceforth do only high-carbon farts.

But seriously, I've all along been a "don't know" about man-made climate change and have kept an open mind. But true or false, no Western country (the UK contributes only 1% of global emissions, and whatever we do will make no measurable difference to climate change) faced by very real threats from China, Russia, Iran and other dangerous totalitarian countries can afford to weaken its economy by trying to become carbon-neutral.
