All the lines are going away but are contradicted by the flat fence straight across our vision. But the for me, the fence suggests the safety of an enclosure that complements the expectation that the cottages will feel safe and cosy. Inclusion of the people where they are is great.

I would have preferred more garden and no fence, which (as you note) being face-on, is compositionally compromising.

But for me this was a satisfying picture, partly because it was a rare opportunity to use my Sony 10-18mm zoom, an excellent lens but seldom needed. Also because (unlike in many of my pictures) the sky is "as was" and not imported from elsewhere.
