Flying Aviation Expo 2014

This album which was shot over two days and has taken many more days to edit and compile, documents Flying Aviation Expo 2014, a major aviation event held in Palm Springs, California.

The Palm Springs Convention Center hosted the event 31 October - 2 November 2014 and it was preceded by a Parade of Planes in which 25 aircraft taxied from the airport via Alejo Road and Avenida Caballeros to parking positions on three sides of the Convention Center, in Calle Alvarado, Amado Road and Avenida Caballeros south of Amado.

It is a thrilling thing to see aircraft taxi through the streets of a city and, after some introductory images, the first part of the album unapologetically brings many similar shots from the parade to convey the atmosphere and the motion. The completed album might best be viewed as a slide show. All 25 aircraft are depicted in mostly wide crops to emphasise the setting. There are then some 'enthusiast crops' with less background and some rather modest night shots, an experiment for me. The parking spots were not specifically lit for night photography.

Finally comes the 'Dawn's Early Light' section were 24 of the aircraft - one other was by now in the exhibition hall - are captured (with varying degrees of success) in the magical light that only dawn can bring.
