Helsinki Central Railway Station (2) - 31 July 2016

The architecture of Helsinki Central Railway Station (Eliel Saarinen, 1919) makes it worth a visit even for those with little or no interest in railways nor, perhaps, even an intention to travel. The monumental style links National Romanticism and Functionalism.

The front doors are flanked by the so-called Lyktbärarna each holding a translucent lantern. The figures were designed by Emil Wikström.
