Edwards Harris Pavilion (1) - 27 October 2014
Piecing together the mostly modern history of Palm Springs is as exciting and challenging as the equivalent task in Lee on Solent although, inevitably, less frequent. I was reflecting on how soothing is the architecture of the soon to be opened (9 November 2014) Palm Springs Art Museum, Architecture and Design Center, Edwards Harris Pavilion when its pleasing simplicity was explained during my research for my notes.

The Palm Springs Art Museum bought the historic 1961 Santa Fe Federal Savings & Loan building in downtown Palm Springs and has rehabilitated the iconic building to create new Architecture and Design Center. The original building was designed by E. Stewart Williams. When completed, the Center will be the country’s first historic structure to be transformed into a free-standing architecture and design museum that is housed in a modern building.

I like an elevated viewpoint for many photographs as it can help to minimise any distractions which might be more apparent on the level. By daring to shoot into sun but looking down, I have got a nice light on the building and captured something of the character of Palm Springs as a background.
