St Mary's Chapel - 13 April 2014

The history of St Mary's Chapel in Kenwyn Road, Truro and built c1850, is documented by English Heritage thus:
The chapel served the community well, acting variously as a Sunday school, mortuary chapel and temporary venue for services while Truro Cathedral was under construction. However, declining attendance led to it being disused by 1964, and it quickly slid into dereliction, suffering from vandalism and neglect. It was used temporarily by the council to store paper, but the building’s condition quickly made it unsuitable for this purpose. The building was formally closed
in 2007 and sold by the Church Commissioners to local developers in 2008, who reached the planning permission stage before going into administration. It was bought in 2009 and
subsequently converted by Ellis and Jemima Luckhurst, who acquired it as little more than an empty shell. The conversion (to residential use) was completed in 2010.
