Colored Beach - 24 January 2014

This important double-sided sign in the John U. Lloyd State Park, Fort Lauderdale tells a tale of a different era which, disturbingly, was only 50 years ago. I think the words can be read in large and I encourage you to read and reflect. Unfortunately, in the same era, newly arrived immigrants fared little better in the UK where there were also outrageous rules, discrimination and barriers to career progress.

Beside of this: I had heard about the "movement of the colored to schools", but not t beaches, so it´s an interesting sign I suppose. :) Always great to hear something about local history which was "filtered out", or which was an detail you haven´t heard about because of the total overview you had since now. Each detail is an important one. :)
