Palmerston - 24 July 2013

A statue of Lord Palmerston in Palmerston Park, Southampton. The opportunity to photograph this statue came as a welcome relief to hunting rhinos [qv] but that very hunt has led to the discovery of countless photographic subjects in Southampton. Statues are often difficult to photograph as the light and shadow detract from the form the sculptor has provided. From three shots, I chose this unconventional view for exactly that reason and because the trees and summer sky make a pleasing background for a tall statue which must, necessarily, be photographed from the ground.
