Ich hab's ihm zugeflüstert, aber anscheinend wollte er nicht. Vielleicht hat er's auch gar nicht gehört, er scheint zu schlafen...das ist nicht gut auf einer brücke. Besonders nicht für einen Nepomuk ;-)

A lovely scene in the PiP indeed, but I think he's dozing on the job.

Not good! I wonder what he's getting paid per hour, probably not that much. That's why he figured that he might as well sleep and not work ;-) He shouldn't be asleep on a bridge though as we all know what's going to happen... ;-))

He's missing a beautiful sight Edna! I have the purple flowers you show in your PiP and they are going a bit wild, but I can't remember what they are called!

The flowers...well, spontaneously I wanted to say: geraniums! But for sure you wouldn't have forgotten what they are called ;-)) So Boro may be right, what do you think? I only know Verbena tea and I know what that looks like...tea bags ;-)))

Yes, he must be very careful!
Boro is right....it was on the tip of my tongue! I have never had Verbena tea though! My sister-in-law always brings her own tea bag when she visits and it's always something obscure! I must ask her if she has ever had verbena tea :-)

OK, so the mystery of those flowers has finally been solved. Great! :-))
Verbena tea is not that popular in Germany although you can get it in the supermarkets. I first came across it in France (perhaps that's why Boro recognized those flowers) :-) I'm not a big fan of herbal tea (if I have to I'll drink vanilla rooibos), I prefer black or green tea...or coffee.

With this expression he is drowsing or in spiritual ecstasy..

Er guckt schon ein wenig weggetreten- wahrscheinlich schwebt sein Geist in höheren Sphären! Er scheint ja nicht mal das trockene Blümchen auf seiner Hand zu bemerken, geschweige denn die in seinem Rücken....

So sieht's aus, Gudrun. Aber ich mache mir einigermassen sorgen...er sollte lieber nicht auf einer brücke eingeschlafen sein oder alkohol getrunken oder irgendwelche anderen berauschenden drogen zu sich genommen haben ;-))

Das klingt plausibel. Aber wenn er in den fluss fällt, dann ist es auch verdrängung. Verdrängung von wasser ;-))

Two beautiful images Edna. He looks serenely peaceful - as if he has already come to terms with his fate. I wonder if he is facing this way because if he is pushed or thrown in and then opens his eyes the last thing he will see is the sky and God's heaven. If he is pushed or thrown in when facing the other way ..well he will be facing downwards.......

Or maybe it is just because nobody wants to just look at the back of a statue!!!

This explanation deserves the first prize, Carol ;-)) It's absolutely logical and beautifully written. The first paragraph as well as the second one...and what's more, you give your readers the option to choose whatever they like better ;-))) Just like an open-ended movie...Barton Fink comes to my mind! :-)

I'll give it a go myself... The pretty PiP is not up to her eternal meditation, I'm afraid. The pain that embraces her carries the pain of humanity facing its sad destiny - inculcated by the holy bible. Let us submit to the blessing of this fine augur and pray for our eternal rest (after retirement, of course ;-))
