Fraser Island hat viele verschiedene Aspekte, aber die beeindruckende Schönheit des Lake McKenzie macht ihn wahrscheinlich zum meistbesuchten Naturschauplatz der Insel. Er ist ein "Perched"-See, d. h. er enthält nur Regenwasser, kein Grundwasser, wird nicht von Bächen gespeist und fließt nicht ins Meer. Der Sand und das organische Material am Boden des Sees bilden eine undurchlässige Schicht, die verhindert, dass das Regenwasser abfließt.

Der Sand hier besteht aus reinem, weißem Quarzsand und ist nicht nur schön anzusehen, sondern fühlt sich auch herrlich weich an, wenn man darauf läuft. Der Sand wirkt wie ein Filter, der dem Wasser seine Klarheit verleiht und dazu beiträgt, dass das Wasser so rein ist, dass es nur sehr wenig Leben tragen kann. Die Blau- und Grüntöne des Sees sind unendlich faszinierend.

There are many different aspects to Fraser Island, but the awe-inspiring beauty of Lake McKenzie makes it probably the most visited natural site on the island. It is a ‘perched’ lake, which means it contains only rainwater, no groundwater, is not fed by streams and does not flow to the ocean. The sand and organic matter at the base of the lake form an impervious layer, preventing rainwater from draining away.

The sand here is pure, white silica and is not only beautiful to look at but feels beautifully soft to walk on. The sand acts as a filter, giving the water its clarity and helping to make the water so pure it can support very little life. The blues and greens of the lake are endlessly fascinating.

L'île Fraser présente de nombreux aspects, mais la beauté époustouflante du lac McKenzie en fait probablement le site naturel le plus visité de l'île. Il s'agit d'un lac "perché", ce qui signifie qu'il ne contient que de l'eau de pluie, aucune eau souterraine, qu'il n'est pas alimenté par des cours d'eau et qu'il ne se jette pas dans l'océan. Le sable et la matière organique à la base du lac forment une couche imperméable, empêchant l'eau de pluie de s'écouler.

Le sable est de la silice blanche et pure, et il est non seulement beau à regarder mais aussi très doux à marcher. Le sable agit comme un filtre, donnant à l'eau sa clarté et contribuant à rendre l'eau si pure qu'elle peut supporter très peu de vie. Les bleus et les verts du lac sont infiniment fascinants.
