Eugene Atget

Atget is one of my favourite photographers. To experience an Atget photograph is to undergo an adventure in seeing. I certainly felt his presence when I took this photo in the Luxembourg Gardens.

Saul Leiter

I recently discovered Saul Leiter's photography and try to 'see' colour as he does, especially on rainy days. The reflected lights in the car window are what I noticed while walking down a street in Victoria's Chinatown.

Vermeer

This photo was taken inside the Anchers Hus Museum in Skagen. The setting reminded me of Vermeer's paintings.

Anna Ancher

I took this photo inside the home of the painter Anna Ancher. There is a beautiful stillness in her paintings that I felt while standing in the pantry of her home.

Josef Sudek

What can I say! Josef Sudek is probably my favourite photographer. When I see rain washed window images I get goosebumps. I took this photo while drinking coffee inside my favourite coffee shop and didn't even have to leave my chair!

Fred Herzog

I grew up and lived most of my life in Vancouver BC. Fred Herzog came from Germany to Vancouver and with his Leica captured the essence of Vancouver street life. He was a pioneer of colour slide film. Sadly, he died in 2019 but left a legacy of over 85,000 images. I took this photo while visiting a small town on Vancouver Island.

To be a Canadian is to appreciate our Group of Seven painters, who helped Canadians open our eyes to the incredible landscapes that define our national artistic identity.

Monet

This photo was taken in Beacon Hill Park, Victoria, BC. Each year the flowering trees and bushes that surround the pond can be captured as reflections along with the water lilies. Thank you Monet for opening our eyes to these beauties.
