Maui
Folder: Themes
We lived on Maui for about 10 years, ending in 2008. Our house faced the trade winds and the sunrises. Of course, the island is famous for its sunsets, but we didn't see all that many.
Our house was 2 blocks from the beach, and we often walked down to enjoy the sunrises, and take photos.

Maui Sunrise
The sun was blasting through the clouds around Haleakala, to spray its crepuscular rays around, while the palm trees swayed in the trade winds.
In other words, another beautiful day in Paradise (Maui).

Maui and Iced Tea
Ice tea, lit up by the beautiful sun of Maui. Taken on our lanai (front porch) which overlooked the Pacific Ocean.
This was actually a lens test. I used the Nikon D50 we had at the time, but attached a non-automatic Nikkor 50mm F1.4 "classic" lens. I'm still using that manual, fixed lens for some activities, even though I don't have a Nikon camera any more.
The sharpness is remarkable.
Yes, that was our view from our living room and lanai, enjoyed it for 9 years.
(The string you see over the fence was fishing line placed to keep the birds off of the barrier.)
God's Tree
At least I call it by that name. This was a tree along a golf course on Maui. I was driving to work, and spotted this sunrise and tree silhouette.

Lanai Sunset
We lived on Maui for 10 years. During that time, we lived in a house facing east. So we saw (and photographed) a lot of sunrises, some of them other-worldly.
However, we rarely saw any sunsets on Maui. Many visitors to the island rave about the magnificent views they get on the west side of the island.
Well, we DID get a few sunset photos, primarily while visiting friends on the other side.
This is a sunset over the island of Lana'i.

Dennis Kamakahi
We had the great experience of attending a concert by father and son Hawaiian musicians, Dennis and David Kamakahi. This concert took place in 2007 during the day at a shopping mall on Maui. Musicians and dancers often perform in these venues.
We were able to get some good photos of the event.
Sadly, Dennis Kamakahi passed away in 2014.

These images remind me of their duet of "Ulili E" from the album "Ohana". And the song plays on...
