This was once a fine example of a chestnut tree, in the local park at Holywell and known as the big tree. I can remember climbing it and collecting conkers when i was a child. Sad to say the local council decided to dig a large sand pit and cut through the roots, and when it got a bit unstable someone had a bright idea to fill part of the trunk at the base with cement. When the decision was made to cut it down, a local wood carver offered his services to carve it. School children were asked what they would like, and it was a Dragon, Owl and a Squirrel . But most of all people wanted HOME carved into it, because they said when they passed it after being away the new they were home.
