Old Flickr Photos
Here's another album of old Flickr stuff, OTHER than rail photos.
Brandenberger Tor (Brandenberg Gate), Color Shot 1…

The Brandenberger Tor, or Brandenberg Gate, was constructed in 1788-1791 by the architect Carl Gotthard Langhans as an actual city gate, back in the days when Berlin was indeed a walled city with gates. It was the last, and most monumental of all the gates, and has long been one of the most recognizable landmarks of Berlin. I took this right after I took my black and white which mirrors it, using my MZ-10 loaded with E100GX instead of my Ikoflex, which had had Delta 100 in it.

This is...yet another Battersea Park shot!! :-) This time, though, instead of viewing it from the LB&SCR mainline, we're seeing it from the old GWR. I think that this shot may in some ways be much better than the other one, though, in spite of the better detail on the other one. I like the color and contrast on this one better.
Christmas Decorations, Brussels, Belgium, January…

This is a shot that I meant to post with my other Brussels shots, but just never got around to. I hope you like it. :-)

Here's my Lomo screwing up again, and once again producing a very cool image by so doing. I hope you like it. :-)
Ducks, Parc Bute, Cardiff, Wales(UK), 2007
I took this shot during the same session as my other Parc Bute shots, simply liking how it looked. It's a bit blurred, though, so I'm leaving the verdict up to you. The light was a bit low, so I was using the 1/45 setting on the shutter of my MZ-10.
Charles Babbage's Difference Engine, Science Museu…
Charles Babbage is ultimately responsible for Flickr, at least if you trace it back far enough. He didn't invent photography or the internet, but many historians of technology consider him to have invented the computer, at least in theory. He built several calculation devices, most notably this one, the Difference Engine, to be used in conjunction with one another to form the "Analytical Engine," considered by many historians to be the first computer in the modern sense, albeit entirely mechanical in nature. Among other innovations, it was not only the first modern computer, but the first one to use punch cards to store software, a storage technology that was only phased out in the 1980s. This version of the Difference Engine (he designed and built several variants) was the largest, and it is not believed to have ever been assembled until the Science Museum in London assembled some old parts and drawings, built everything missing with period tools, and finished the job, putting the finished product on display as seen here. Upon testing it, they found that it worked perfectly, and supposedly it's still operable. Several other, earlier difference engines are displayed nearby, although all of the machines date to the 1830s.
What's On The Cards?, Peterborough, Cambridgeshire…

Although I could have taken this in 1999, when I was actually taking a photography course at the University of East Anglia, I'm fairly certain this was actually taken by me independently, and then developed in the darkrooms of the UEA Photo Society. I'm not sure, though. The year on the poster, of course, is referring to the 2001 UK election, as this poster is ridiculing Cherie Blair's obsession with mysticism and superstition. In the end, of course, Britain was doomed by a weak opposition and voter apathy to 4 more years of Blairite incompetence and corruption, which included the Iraq War, and yet another unsuccessful attempt to get rid of him, so one has to consider this poster as being unsuccessful, if indeed The Times dared to take a political position against Blair. It is a bit of an ethical grey area for many journalists, to be sure, when a serious newspaper like The Times does something this blatantly partisan. I've always thought that this photo was very interesting, though, in that it perfectly captured the mood of the times (no pun intended), and even included a reference to the British Rail Crisis, all in a major railway station! :-)

When I took this, I was hoping for an interesting detail shot, still life, or whatever, but I ended up with something far stranger than I had bargained for, as the cross processing on this roll was really extreme with the expired Fujichrome Astia and all.

I've also got conventional versions of this shot, of course, but this is maybe the most interesting, being cross processed.
Karosa Buses, Cross Processed, Dejvicka, Prague, C…
In addition to trams, metro trains, and of course the funicular trains/trams, DPP also has a large fleet of buses, some of them Volvos and such, but the vast majority being Karosas, as these are. I took this in Dejvicka, basically experimenting with my Lomo.
Vitezne Namesti, Cross Processed, Dejvicka, Prague…
Vitezne Namesti is a square in Dejvicka which includes both a traffic circle and a tram junction right through the middle of the circle. It sounds crazy, and it would be were it not for its enormous size, which allows two trams to occupy the middle space end-to-end with room for other trams to travel between them. This allows for a little bit of waiting time, but it's still a bit crazy. As with my other Dejvicka shot, this was an experiment with cross processing.
Abandoned Building, Sherwood Forest Yard, Cross Pr…
The yards and grounds surrounding Praha Hlavni Nadrazi are called "Sherwood Forest" by locals, referring to the near total anarchy there. The police are everywhere, but that doesn't reduce the public urination and defecation, the rampant vandalism, assault, robbery, and other much more awful crimes committed there, not to mention the unwillingness of any of the vagrants there to be even moderately sanitary. The whole station is slated for a rebuilding, which is already in its beginning stages, although there is still so much vandalism that I'm not sure what the point is. Anything built will be immediately trashed before it's even completed. There are also a lot of abandoned outbuildings in the yard, like this one. I shot this from a train waiting to depart.
View From Rip, Bohemia(CZ), 2006
Here's another view from Rip, giving a better idea of the expansive view that you can get from it. In honesty, though, the summit isn't the best place. This is actually the side of the mountain, where there are fewer trees in the way, as even in the Fall, when I went, the summit's view is obscured by the trees that cover it.
Krapcice, Bohemia(CZ), 2006
Krapcice is a small village not far from Rip, which is a mountain, in Central Bohemia. I took this from Rip with my Ikoflex.

Berliner Dom, Berlin, Germany, 2007
The Berliner Dom (Dome) was built as a cathedral between 1895 and 1905 to replace an earlier cathedral constructed here in 1747, which in turn replaced a chapel constructed in 1465 for the Hohenzollem family. Heavily damaged in World War II, the current Berliner Dom is a simpler and less glamourous building than the original, although an extensive reconstruction was conducted during the period 1975-1993.
