THE MILL TRIBE
2015
A SCULPTURAL ASSEMBLAGE of SALVAGED MACHINERY
These cast iron rollers once crushed the cane at the Moreton Central Sugar Mill
which closed in 2003
Saved at the time from the cutters torch and the foundry furnace to remain here nearby what was the Moreton Mill Entrance gate. In this repose they serve as a reminder of the region's once huge and successful sugar industry and a monument to the generations of people involved for over 100 years.
Commissioned by the
SUNSHINE COAST COUNCIL.
