I like both the shot and the PiP but still don't know what we're looking at here (And, yes, I did read your notes!).

Hi Andy, this is a construction foundation of a Saltwork. in PiP you can see the end face.
This is a historic plant, in working order. The liquid salt solution from the spring is pumped to the top of the plant. From there, the solution trickles down through built-in blackthorn branches. In the process, the salt solution is concentrated (water evaporates) and purified from aragonite lime and gypsum. Both minerals crystallise on the branches. The concentrated salt solution was then boiled in the past. Today used for respiratory care. Best regards, Karsten
