The Coot Family

During a short walk in October 2011 at the Great Pool in Himley Estate I noticed two Coot chicks in a nest. I thought it was quite late to have chicks. The weather in November was mild and on the last visit of the 14th November the chicks looked fine.

There was one curious thing that I noticed, and posed a question on the Bird Forum, but did not receive any explanation...

The two chicks had seemed to separate, one to the father and the other to the mother. When either of the chicks approached the other parent it would be chased off!

The last picture was taken in 2015, but what is in the nest??
