State Street, Battery Park (Scan from June 1981)

State Street, Battery Park (Scan from June 1981) In the 1981 picture the brown building between the two skyscrapers is the 23 storey Seaman’s Church Institute which was completed in 1969. The 2024 Google Earth shows the building was replaced by a 42 storey skyscraper in 1988. The small building dwarfed by the three skyscrapers in the 2024 Google Earth view is the Church of the Rosary and the Shrine of Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton, originally Watson House. Dating from 1793. On the original picture it is obscured by trees. forgotten-ny.com/2015/09/shrine-of-elizabeth-seton-battery-park

Grand Army Plaza looking towards W59th St and the statue of General William Tecumseh Sherman (Scan from June 1981)

Grand Army Plaza looking towards W59th St and the statue of General William Tecumseh Sherman (Scan from June 1981) The 1981 picture shows the statue of General William Tecumseh Sherman (1820–1891) on the northern side of Grand Army Plaza. This gave me some confusion as the present situation is on the southern side of the Plaza. In 1990 a restoration of Plaza was completed including re-guilding of the statue. The Plaza was renewed again in 2013 including another re-guild. Also in the 1981 picture the statue shows Nike with a broken frond which was replaced in the late 80s.
