L’actuel château d’Eu fut bâti au XVIe siècle par Henri de Lorraine, troisième duc de Guise, et embelli, au siècle suivant, par la Grande Mademoiselle, la célèbre cousine de Louis XIV.

Lle château d'Eu fut l'une des résidences favorites du roi Louis-Philippe.
Pendant son règne (1830-1848) il y reçut à deux reprises la reine Victoria d'Angleterre, en 1843 d'abord, puis en1845, initiant ainsi l'entente cordiale entre la France et le Royaume-Uni.

En Septembre 1843, après avoir débarqué au Tréport avec son mari le prince Albert de Saxe-Cobourg, c'est en carrosse que Victoria arrive au château d'Eu. Elle a 30 ans ; Louis-Philippe qui en a 70, la reçoit avec les plus grands honneurs.
