• On l’apprécie pour son feuillage persistant, brillant et découpé, souvent très graphique !
Sa floraison est agréablement parfumée
Il trouve facilement sa place à l’ombre, dans une haie, dans un massif, et peut aussi être cultivé en isolé.

Ils sont spectaculaires en ce moment ces mahonias, mais j'en ai une autre variété plus précoce, fanée maintenant, et merveilleusement odorante. Il y a un grand nombre d'années que ce mahonia est dans le jardin, mais c'était la première fois cet hiver que je m'en apercevais ! Faut dire que là où il est placé, il m'a fallu une opportunité toute particulière pour me rendre compte de son sublime parfum...

Josiane this is such a beautiful picture of this plant's blossoms! What an explosion of blossoms! I wondered if this might be a type of holly ... I really thought it was a lot like it. The shape of its buds gives it a confusing name "Oregon-grape", it's not a grape at all! : D Bear has the same flowers but in less dense stalks of flowers ... you can see my pictures here if you like: www.ipernity.com/search/photo?w=290645&q=mahonia

Good evening Janet for your nice comment, to answer your question the Mahonia is indeed a kind of holly, it has also the same leaves with (quills) and when it has finished to bloom it comes from the dark berries (which could be reminiscent of grapes but much smaller)
