Wardian Case for Orchids
This is a picture of the wardian case in which I grow my collection of cool-temperature miniature orchids, mostly New Guinea Dendrobiums and Pleurothallids, a family of orchids, many of them miniatures from Central and South America.

Sasquatch Exists!
Something a little different!
On one of our trips to Lake Elizabeth, we saw this chair through the trees and down by the lake. There was no one around that we could see and no other vehicles up on the Forest Service road, but when we were down by the lake a few minutes later, the chair was gone! Someone or something had whisked it away.
We think we have found the home of Sasquatch, the legendary figure from the forests of the Pacific Northwest. Notice that the chair is rather beat up, and that seems further proof of our sighting, since Sasquatch cannot just walk into the nearest shop and buy a new chair. This is photographic proof, therefore, for his existence.
As we think about it, we are more and more sure that we probably caught a glimpse of Sasquatch himself and present this photo as proof that Sasquatch really does exist. It is quite exciting to think that he lives or at least spends his summers at Lake Elizabeth and we will be looking for him again in the future.
Since this is some of the only photographic evidence in existence for Sasquatch, we are now waiting to sell the photo to some news organization for a huge sum of money that will allow us to retire and spend the rest of our lives looking for Sasquatch. We may even fund an expedition to Loch Ness when our check comes.
EA18 Growler
On Whidbey Island south of Deception Pass State Park and north of the town of Oak Harbor lies the Whidbey Island Naval Air Station. Used, I'm told, especially for training flights there are times when the area around Deception Pass is filled from dawn to duck with the roar of planes. That was the case one of the days we camped at Deception Pass. There were several different kinds of planes flying short runs out over Cranberry Lake and around over the Rosario Strait to the base, but this was the only one that appeared to be a fighter of some kind, which I've identified as a Boeing EA18 Growler used primarily for electronic warfare.

Fire
Taken by a campfire while on a two-night camping trip last spring with a group of 6-8th graders at Deception Pass State Park on Whidbey Island. This was one of the few pictures of the fire that was good enough IMO to post.
I'm fascinated by campfires, as I suppose everyone is, and always try to get pictures, but few of them turn out. I liked the simplicity of this picture as well as the pattern that the flames made climbing up a stick of wood.
Chandeliers
This room at the Chihuly Exhibition in Seattle had as its centerpiece a huge standing sculpture of clear glass, with a smaller chandelier of the same form and color hanging above it and four very large chandeliers of different forms and colors in the four corners of the room. This photo shows the centerpiece and one of the chandeliers.

Ikebana and Float Boats
Another photo from the Chihuly Garden and Glass Exhibition. This is another full size exhibit with a room to itself, that includes two boats. Shown here is the Float Boat. The Ikebana Boat is just to the right of it. Very impressive displays and fun to photograph.

Northwest Room
This room at the Chihuly exhibition in Seattle is very different from the others. It not only contains many smaller glass object, bowls, vases and decorative pieces, but contains a collection of Native American baskets (the inspiration for some of the glass pieces), old photos, and blankets. Instead of trying to show the room, I thought I would post a photo of just one piece, one of the vases or bowls that are mixed with the basket collection on shelves along the wall.

Macchia Forest
This room at the Chihuly Garden and Glass exhibition included a set of his well-known bowls on stands. The information given with the exhibit indicated that these bowls are made of three layers of glass with a lip wrap of a contrasting color. This was the darkest of the rooms and the most difficult to photograph, also because we had to wait for people to move out of the way.

Mille Fiori
"Thousand Flowers" is one of the largest indoor exhibits at Chihuly Garden and Glass. It has a room all to itself and is assembled on a 20 x 58 foot mirrored oval. This is the view one sees when entering the room. It is supposed to be modeled after his mother's garden.
