Northern Ireland
Folder: Overseas
Slemish
Before going to France last summer we were in Northern Ireland and England. While in Northern Ireland we visited friends whose house is near Slemish. Slemish is an ancient volcanic cone, supposed to be the place where St. Patrick herded pigs as a slave after being captured by pirates and sold to an Irish chieftain.
Daughter's House
Before going to France we were in Northern Ireland and in England. In Northern Ireland we stayed with our oldest daughter who is a doctor, a nephrologist, in Belfast. She had to work while we were there and we spent most of our time doing odd jobs around her house, shown here.
Kinbane Castle Ruins
The ruins of Kinbane Castle lie on the north coast of Northern Ireland on a limestone peninsula at the bottom of a steep cliff, now reached by a narrow staircase. Most of the outer wall is gone but this is a small section still standing with its gun port. One of the inset photos is taken through the port. The castle was built in the sixteenth century by the MacQuillan clan.
Pillar at Kinbane
This pillar is along the steep stairs that lead to Kinbane Castle ruins in Northern Ireland.
Gun Port at Kinbane
This is a gun port in one of the few sections of walls still standing at the ruins of Kinbane Castle on the north coast of Northern Ireland.
Standing Rock at Kinbane
This rock stands next to Kinbane Castle on the north coast of Northern Ireland. I have not been able to find any information on whether it is natural and whether it served any purpose. The land in background is Rathlin Island.
Dunseverick Falls
Dunseverick Falls is on the coast of Northern Ireland. The falls are where the Dunseverick River drops into the sea. We walked across a farmer's fields to see and photograph the falls, as one of the insets shows.

Sheep
These sheep were in the fields we walked across to get to Dunseverick Falls. It is not uncommon in Ireland that one must cross private land to get to different attractions.
