Desert Lavender
This and the insets are a few more of the wildflowers we saw while hiking to an old gold mining mill, Wall Street Mill, in Joshua Tree National Park.
Chia
I'm posting a few more wildflowers from Joshua Tree National Park today, this a plant called Chia, Salvia columbariae, photographed along the trail to Wall Street Mill, an old gold mining mill.
Sacred Datura
These last photos from Joshua Tree National Park are of the flowers of the Sacred Datura, an hallucinogenic but very dangerous plant. Also known as thorn apple, moon lily, moon flower, Indian apple, angel's trumpet, devil's trumpet, tolguacha, locoweed and Jimson weed. Especially its seeds and roots have been used by native tribes as an anesthetic and in religious ceremonies but numerous death have been reported and emergency room incidents are reported as high as 1000 a year.

I've added this to the group for Pam since she sent me seeds of a related species, Datura inoxia, that are planted and growing (I have no intention of testing its hallucinogenic properties).
Toughleaf Iris
Photographed in Jedediah Smith State Park along the Simpson-Reed Grove Trail, this is one of the few wildflowers we saw among the Redwoods. It is the Stoutleaf Iris, Iris tenax.

Henderson's Checker Mallow
If I have this identified correctly, it is a rather rare wildflower found only in Oregon, Washington and British Columbia. I stand to be corrected, however on the ID. The botanical name for the species is Sidlacea hendersonii and it is found in wetlands and coastal areas.
