Colorado and Utah Wildflowers
Folder: Native Flora and Fauna
Colorado Blue Columbine
The wildflowers we saw while hiking in the Colorado Rockies were unbelievable. Many of the mountain meadows were like gardens. I haven't posted any photos yet of them, but we saw Indian Paintbrush in every imaginable shade and many flowers, too, that we did not recognize and still have to identify. My favorite, though, is the Blue Columbine, a wildflower I had not seen for many years and was delighted to see again. This example was photographed near Maroon Lake.
King's Crown
Photographed along Highway 82 in Colorado, this is one of the many wildflowers my brothers and I saw and photographed last summer while traveling and hiking together.
Whipple's Pentstemon
These are some of the wildflowers I photographed in Colorado when hiking there with two of my brothers last summer. I've never seen such an abundance of wildflowers anywhere. These were photographed in Independence Pass.
Northern Yellow Paintbrush
Photographed in the Colorado Rockies, this wildflower is Northern Yellow Paintbrush, Castilleja septentrionalis.
Alpine Lousewort
This wildflower is Alpine Lousewort, Pedicularis scopulorum, photographed in Independence Pass in the Colorado Rockies.
Elephant's-head Lousewort
This is Elephant's-head Lousewort, photographed along Highway 82 in Independence Pass in Colorado. It also grows here in Washington.
Monkshood
Photographed along the trails above Maroon Lake in the Colorado Rockies, this is Monkshood, Aconitum columbianum, a very beautiful but poisonous wildflower.
Colorado Blue Columbine
This is the Colorado Blue Columbine, Aquilegia caerulea, photographed in the area of Maroon Lake in the Colorado Rockies.
