Cassin's Finch

Cassin's Finch
Cassin's Finch is a bird new to our feeders and new to us. They have started coming recently and suddenly we've seen a lot of them. They are similar at first glance to the very common House Finch (of which I've posted an inset) but are distinguished by the brilliant red crown, longer wings and unstreaked breast. Unlike the House Finch their range is limited to the west, from Mexico up into British Columbia.

WOOT WOOT! Look at all of these fabulous pictures!! Totally adorable. Crisp, perfect images of these gorgeous fellows, nice job! How nice to have a new species showing up! :D

Just stopping by to say hello! Hope all is well with you, our trip is progressing very nicely! Today was a pooper of a rainy day though. We've been holed up or basically out to the store and back. We did have a little walk out to the beach and back but the weather was too bad to actually get on the beach. We're hoping tomorrow is better. Still, we're very happy and doing great--Steve was pretty bored and unhappy until he found out that he can play his favorite video game via his phone connection...me? Heh, I'm happy as a clam with endless fun stuff to do. It sure would be nice to get some agreeable weather...there is skunk cabbage here and I've never seen it before! Talk about COOL! It's in flower too, so I'm going to get pictures tomorrow if it means having Steve holding an umbrella for me! :D

A great series, Ron. Fascinating that these are moving into your area, are there any obvious reasons? With that red cap they certainly are distinctive.

I love his little red cap.

I have noticed birds in New England that do not normally come here. I wonder whether it has anything to do with climate change.
