Warm Springs Canyon

After spending the night at Ashford Mill (sleeping in the back of our van as we usually do), we headed up the Warm Springs Canyon Road, a rough track in the southwest area of the park. We had intended to continue into Butte Valley but the road became so rough that we did not dare to go on without a four-wheel drive vehicle. We went as far as Warm Springs Camp where we stayed the night and spent the day exploring. There was an abandoned talc mine near the camp and the abandoned camp itself was interesting. We also hiked up to the springs (they were indeed warm) for which canyon and camp are named (see inset) and bathed and washed our clothes.
