Ursprünglich (vor 90 Millionen Jahren) gehörte dieses Gebiet zur Oberkreide. Durch Verwitterung und Ablagerungen sind die heute sehr interessant anzuschauenden Sandsteinfelsen entstanden. Sie sind in der Nähe des sächsischen Ortes Oybin zu finden.
