Basilica di San Lorenzo and the Medici Tombs

Florence, Italy. The basilica wall is on the left, the Chapel of the Princes, which holds the tombs of the most prominent Medici, is under the largest dome. The Medici Chapel is the weirdest interior I have ever seen. The most obvious quality, to me, was narcissism. It was designed in the Mannerist period, perhaps the perfect style for expressing the arrogance and theatricality of the Medici family. In the central tourist part of Florence, it was unusual to see a building in a state of deterioration. It caught my attention for that reason.
