An old hotel that I remember seeing when I was a child. To me, it was a skyscraper. This building survived the 1964 tsunami that destroyed much of the town and killed 11 people, including several small children. www.youtube.com/watch?v=8pitAGlz5x0 The 2011 earthquake in Japan caused another one. The harbor was destroyed. www.youtube.com/watch?v=h6yvQcQGKvM For several years thereafter, many objects from Japan, some quite sad, have washed up on the coast of Alaska, Canada and mainland USA.

I can't find the photo of the whole front of the building, but here are some details of the 1930s post office... Gothic revival lamps.

I wish I could get a closer look at the terracotta border with sunbursts! Between the cornice and the roof tiles.

Every time I see this it reminds me of the richly creepy atmosphere of Hearst Castle in San Simeon, California, particularly the study of 1930s millionaire/publisher William Randolph Hearst. thisisamericafoundation.files.wordpress.com/2013/05/library.jpg I toured the place a long time ago and left thinking it would be great to be a millionaire, but I wouldn't dream of spending it like Hearst did.
