Drippy resin

This is seen a lot in the yellow pines, here. I don't know (and haven't found online, yet) if it's a result of disease. Bark damage from cut or fallen branches, perhaps?

A confusing factor about pines is that there are so many species and sub-species. Several are commonly called "yellowpine."

I pretty sure that it oozes out from damage to the bark or when a branch is broken off, and I know they can "tap" the trees to collect the resin commercially. That's the extent of my knowledge though!

I scraped some off at my former office, once, because it smells so good! Some trees have enormous globs of the stuff. Thanks again, Keith!
