Some people find the shrill sound of seagulls annoying, but I am entertained by them. It's nice to have a bit of the seaside this far inland.

Love the shot ~
Was a common sight in Florida around any of the inland lakes where I lived, but when we moved to North Carolina ..... spotted one in Walmart parking lot !
I asked a fellow putting his groceries in his car why the gull was so far inland.
His answer: " think he blew in with a hurricane and liked it here .."
Makes sense to me !

Hahaaa, that's excellent! I don't remember seeing them when I lived here in childhood, but somehow there was a mass immigration while I was gone. We don't have hurricanes, so I suspect they're pretty good at finding new inland territories by the smell of dumps. (Excuse me, land fills.) Thanks, Peggy!

I'm still vigilant for Sandhill Cranes... in Florida they are year round residents and not migratory. Except one who was on a migration route [about 25 yrs ago - I'm told], showed up on the NC Coast... haven't seen any since.

Great! Thanks for the link, I enjoyed it. I've never seen a sandhill crane, of course they aren't in the west. I've been as far east as Nebraska-Kansas, etc., and I guess that is also in their range.

Alas, I probably won't be travelling to their territory. I'll have to make do with cattle egrets and great blue herons.

Cattle Egrets ! Had a drummer friend in Florida and he told me this story.

A friend from up North came to Florida for a visit --- since the visitor was from one of those Northern states that don't have cattle egrets, he asked My drummer friend what they were.

This is where you should be seated, Diane.

From my Florida drummer friend, who could be very serious -- " oh, you haven't seen these birds before?
They are out there in the field with the cattle to help them .. the egrets are "seeing-eye" birds for the cattle, who are blind."

You know how those fields look ..lots of little white egrets and the large cattle.

The visitor bought the explanation.

No, my friend did not tell him the truth until he was ready to fly back North.
