California quail

California quail
They move around like a little military unit, making startled sounds. They also remind me of a group of panicky girls who have seen their teen idol down the street. About 20 of them visit and they like to hide under cars and bushes to regroup between dashes here and there.

The all-brown ones are female, the ones with a fancy black helmet (hard to see) are male. www.youtube.com/watch?v=tvl5w6cxyes

Yeah, we have them in our yard, too. The new dog still goes bananas about them, but the two old boys don't bother any more!

The old boys are no longer impressed, eh? I'm afraid they are way too easy for cats to kill. My late cat did - probably more than once.
