I presume it's unpasteurised, Diane. I have tasted some OK unpasteurised Brie, including a passable Cornish version but I've never tasted one that is anything like the original unpasteurised Brie de Meaux. When my uncle came over from Canada he would make a point of buying a wheel of it, or failing that, a good ripe camembert and keep it in the garden (tightly wrapped) so that it could mature further and not stink the farmhouse out (this was in Cornwall, it didn't quite work when he stayed with us in London!). He said that it was impossible to buy anything like it in Canada. When we got back from a longish session at the pub at night, we would tuck in with some good crusty farmhouse bread, put the rest back in the garden for the following night! There were a few of us and a large wheel never lasted more than a couple of days!

I have no idea about the pasteurization issue, but I know we can get unpasteurized milk, here. I wouldn't dream of it, but I don't like milk anyway. I've had this brand and it's delicious. I've always assumed it's from France. That's a cute story about your uncle! We have raccoons, so leaving cheese in the garden at night would not work well for the humans!

Yes, I do love cheese. I read somewhere that it is the "most-craved food," but don't know in what instance. When you've been in prison? In China? Antarctica?

I'm back to the fray, so to speak. I had some excellent cheeses in Cornwall, nearly all are pasteurised these days; Health and Safety guidelines, if not exactly 'rules'.
I like your list, Diane. I would add asparagus straight from the garden!
