I find the overhead wiring utterly ghastly. I know it's a big country and it would be prohibitively expensive to bury it all underground and it probably doesn't much matter in a place like this but I see them also in shots of supposed landmarks, beauty spots and monuments of national prominence. Surely at these places the wherewithal could be found to bury the lines if only for a few hundred yards.
... and another thing!
What exactly is a mart? I know of Wallmart (or is it Walmart?) but is 'mart' a contraction of the word 'market' ?
I would love to know!

You got it, Andy. Mart is a contraction of Market.

As I said to Pam, once, if you think this is bad, you should see Japan. Spaghetti everywhere, and that's a small space. That might be related to earthquakes. You're right, here it's all about the expense of covering vast areas.* (Same in Australia.) Most city suburbs (not necessarily the urban parts) have underground wires, partly paid for by the real estate developers who built the housing tracts. This is the case in higher value suburbs of Klamath Falls.

When I moved back here, I was annoyed by wires, too, but I've gotten used to them and just factor them into my composition as I would any other feature of the landscape. If the nationally important landmark/monument is in the boondocks, yes, you'll see wires along the highways and whatever buildings are nearby.

I don't know where you live, but by no stretch could this be called paradise! Lol! It has more to do with relatively high gas tax, since Oregonians tend to vote NO! on any sales tax or increase in property tax for any purpose. Hence, more difficulty with their budget than many other states.

I'm in Mississippi, which few people would call paradise. The eastern, non-agricultural part is a very nice place for nature lovers, however.
