They do? I've only seen and heard thingummy. These language (especially slang) details fascinate me so much, I wish I'd been a linguist, among many other things...lol!

Just seen! Been away for a few days.
I and most of my generation and younger use both but 'thingamajig' predominates.
My parents, who are both in their 80s, only use 'thingummy.'
So I presume the American English version is taking over.
